Beginner's Guide to Social Media
By Ian Faight
HMA Marketing, Communications and Digital Content Director
Is your company active on social media, looking to get started, or struggling to figure it all out? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you’re not alone. And the good news is, help is available only a few clicks away!
Social Media Guide Now Available
HMA staff has developed a new resource on behalf of the Real American Hardwood Coalition, titled Beginner’s Guide to Social Media: Tips, Tricks, Dos, and Don’ts. And as an HMA member, this handy guide is available to you, for free, as a tool to help boost your company’s online presence in today’s digital world.
As with most marketing initiatives, you shouldn’t apply a one-size-fits-all strategy to your company’s various social media profiles. To assist your company in developing a successful plan, the guide provides an overview of several social media platforms—including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and LinkedIn—that your company could be utilizing to reach potential customers in different ways. An image size guide also is provided to ensure any images you create and share across the various platforms appear clean and crisp.
In addition, the easy-to-follow resource offers tips, tricks, dos, and don’ts to help your company stay on track, on schedule, and on budget as you share content, grow your audience, build relationships, and maintain a professional reputation.

Spreading Our Industry’s Messages with Infographics
The hardwood industry has amazing messages to share that touch on history; natural qualities; an unrivaled story of sustainability; efficient manufacturing techniques; and myriad benefits to our health, wallet, economy, and the planet.
To spread these messages in easy-to-understand ways, HMA staff is developing a series of infographics for the Real American Hardwood campaign to educate and inform consumers, design professionals, and media. These informative images are being posted via the @RealAmericanHwd Twitter profile each week. And while they are gaining traction with industry stakeholders, we need your help to get them going viral with a wider audience.
Help us spread our industry’s messages by liking, commenting, and sharing these infographics with your company’s followers. And be sure to use #RealAmericanHardwood in your posts! Click here to browse and download the growing collection of infographics, and check back often, as new content is added regularly.
