More than just talk
By Linda Jovanovich
HMA Executive Vice President
Some people thrive on uncertainty, but not me! While I do enjoy a ‘surprise’ every now and then, for the most part, I’m a creature of habit. And from what many of you have told me, so are you. So living in the current state of flux is indeed challenging!
What an interesting word – flux! According to HMA’s in-house English major, the noun “describes something that constantly changes.” That clearly describes life right now. And it’s that uncertainty which is so alienating and unnerving! I think we all need a strong dose of Consistency and a reinforced sense of Connection. And that’s where HMA steps to the plate.
There is strength in numbers. And from where I sit, if ever there were a time to belong to a trade association, it’s NOW! The HMA is here for you. The HMA staff is here for you. And while you’ve not been able to meet with them, your fellow HMA members are here for you.
Please let me remind you - HMA member benefits include many things – public relations and promotion activities, education and training programs, Re$ource Purchasing Power programs, Conferences and facility tours (hopefully they will soon resume) – but our most significant member benefit is access to and involvement with a unique industry brain trust.
HMA’s peer-to-peer network is extraordinary. Use it. Call each other in friendship and support. Call each other for professional insight. Reach out - to Eric in New Hampshire or Skipper in South Carolina; Brian in Indiana or Steve in Pennsylvania. Take advantage of this priceless benefit and remember: Talking is good medicine. And Information is power.
We’re in this together, one step at a time. So, as you make your way back and contemplate what’s next, look to the HMA, and all industry associations. They were designed to aid, support and connect their members. And please know that those of us in the ‘corner offices’ are working for you, both behind the scenes and on the frontlines.
